Last week on the January 5, CES2023 officially began in Las Vegas on the largest scale since Covid-19 epidemic. The core keywords of this year’s CES are focused on these three words : hyper-connectivity, eco-friendliness and AI. Hyper-connectivity ultimately means the connection of everything around us including people, various electronic devices and vehicles. Self-driving cars must also be one of the main targets of hyper-connectivity.

Formax Network has already started the research on AI-based road traffic data to evolve the driving ability of these self-driving cars more intelligently. The purpose of the study is to generate artificial intelligence data that can predict future traffic flow by using AI analysis techniques from traffic big data collected in real time. The use of AI traffic data generated this way can have the effect of reflecting years of experience of taxi drivers in a congested city center, and this will be an essential factor in realizing intelligent self-driving cars.

Formax has conducted the above-mentioned research to develop dynamic pattern speeds that change over time in general pattern data, and to make plans to create traffic data that continues to evolve based on these existing research results.

Did you know that traffic congestion comes with a ‘cost’? The longer the time spent on the road, the more stress on the driver increases, as well as personal economic loss and, by extension, national economic activity.

Another year is already coming to an end. 2022 is now less than ten days away, but the Korea Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that until the very last day of 2021, new sectional roads are scheduled to be opened at national routes in a total of nine different areas, including two roads that already opened just recently on 17th. One of them is the bypass road in Goyang, a city in the capital metropolitan area where the Seoul Mobility Show was recently held; when open to the public, it is expected that the travel time will be shortened by more than 20 minutes.

As such, addition of new roads across the country is anticipated to resolve many problems large and small caused by traffic congestion. This also means new updates in Fx-Traffic, one of the country’s best traffic information solution services. In the coming new year, we look forward to seeing the positive changes in traffic via Fx Traffic when the new roads come into effect.

From November 25th to December 5th, 2021 Seoul Mobility Show was held in Goyang. Hosted by Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association (KAMA), the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA), and Korea Auto Industry Cooperative Association, the Seoul Mobility Show is the largest automobile show in Korea, and has been held every other year since 1995. We went to check out various unveiled cars - ranging from electric to concept cars - including Mercedes Benz EQE, to which our co-operated MBC-TPEG service will be applied once launched in Korea.

The biggest common theme we could find across these various fantastic cars was “electric”. Switching to sustainable battery entailed futuristic exterior designs, but it was not only the outside that was distinguishable from the past vehicles. More digitized, smarter, and bigger display screens inside the cars were just as noteworthy as their attractive exteriors. As a company that specializes in information service for automobiles, we focused on trying out the features of infotainment systems and tried to capture what they looked like for those of you who think that “the inside matters”, just like we do.


As you can see from the video, it is interesting to see how each infotainment display has its own distinct characteristics. Some of the most impressive displays were from Mercedes-Benz EQE and the all-new MINI Convertible. The EQE boasted a huge, larger-than-ever touchscreen, that started from the dashboard to the screen on the passenger side, with a nice touch of smooth curves surrounding it. The MINI Convertible intrigued us with a round display area in the shape of a steering wheel. The touch screen was fastest in response out of all the touch displays we tried at the show.

Although there seemed to be major changes in designs of the touch screens, there weren’t a lot of models that had been localized and made ready to use, forbidding us from testing the experience of getting road directions or traffic situations. It looks like the last but crucial step towards creating a complete, holistically great car is enhancing the infotainment functionality and usability, as they play a key role in the driver’s experience. We hope that our industry leading traffic information service will make a meaningful contribution to that process in the sustainable, connected era of mobility, starting with our MBC-TPEG service to Mercedes-Benz EQE.

At the Seoul Mobility Show, the largest automobile show in Korea, held from November 25th to last Sunday, Mercedes-Benz’s electric vehicle model EQE was unveiled for the first time in Asia. MBC-TPEG, currently co-operated and co-serviced by the Formax Network, will be integrated with the soon to be released model in Korea.
