2022 Review of Sales Status of Imported Cars in Korea

The most-sold car brand in South Korea? Of course, Hyundai and Kia are unassailable in the Korean auto sales market, but imported cars also show figures that cannot be ignored as well.
According to the data released by the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA), Mercedes-Benz ranked the highest in preference in Korea last year as it always has been in the past. Although its market share declined by a very small number compared to that of 2021, it is continuously strong with the sales share of 28.48%.

Two noteworthy points could be also found in the above charts. One is that the second-ranked BMW narrowed the gap of its sales market share with Mercedes-Benz from 4% in 2121 to 0.85%, which is the evidence that the preference for BMW has relatively increased. Another notable point is the appearance of Polestar, the electric vehicle made by Sweden. The leader in the market share of imported electric vehicle brand in South Korea has always been Tesla, but Polestar which was out of the ranking until 2121 appeared in the chart for the first time. Besides, by car models, Mercedes-Benz’s E-Class maintains the absolute advantage, followed by BMW’s 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz’s S-Class.
