Introducing ‘MBC RTK’ service, a high-precision accurate system

MBC, one of the largest nationwide terrestrial broadcasting networks in South Korea, provides RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) service in addition to 'MBC TPEG’, the DMB/IP-based information provision system for traffic and travel.

RTK is a satellite navigation method to increase precision of the location data obtained from GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) such as GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou, and in addition to the signal information, it measures carrier phase of the signal and provides real-time correction using a single surveying station or an interpolated virtual surveying station for the maximum level of accuracy.

‘MBC RTK’, the official brand of RTK service of MBC, has a system to manage some 200 base stations nationwide by adding more than 30 self-operated base stations. This system provides corrections to the final terminal through the DMB/LTE network system upon the platform of the Broadcast RTK algorithm. Furthermore, MBC manufactures and provides receivers for the service and has a 24 hour real-time monitoring system to improve the service quality.

This service is used in various fields that require high-precision positioning such as autonomous driving, personal mobility, drone, marine industry, precision farming etc., and it won the Presidential Award - the highest award - at the 2020 Radio Wave Broadcasting Technology Awards in South Korea with an evaluation of reducing a location error to about 2cm error-level accuracy.
