Road speed data, which predicts the traffic conditions of close future - several minutes to several hours later - is undoubtedly very important for route finding and guiding in navigation system. Real-time traffic information helps you figure out the overall traffic situation for driving. But wouldn’t it be better if it reflects the data which predicts the traffic situation of 20 to 30 minutes or 1 to 2 hours beforehand to your destination? Everyone would regard it as an ‘optimal route search method’.

As human beings have situational awareness, we are able to foresee the traffic to some extent. For example, let’s imagine that the traffic to destination was alright upon departure, but the roads were congested due to the rush hour when we reached our destination. Or when returning home from a picnic on Sunday afternoon, we usually leave a bit early in anticipation of traffic congestion.



Formax Network’s ’Traffic Information Research Institute’ has long been conducting the research on ‘traffic situation prediction system’. As we continuously supply real-time traffic information, we also provide traffic situation pattern information - time of day, day of the week, weekdays, holidays, etc. - by creating statistical information based on the past data. We have already acquired a related patent by developing dynamic pattern information linked to the current traffic situation from pattern traffic data, and kept working on accelerating the development of a ‘AI traffic situation prediction system’ in 2023. A feasibility verification was conducted through a time series AI learning model, and the preliminary research on RNN-based deep learning is currently in progress.
